Out of this wild crucible rose a warlord unlike any other—Varric Drausthal, a hard-eyed mountain son who wielded a shattered poleaxe and bore no sigil but the broken horn of a slain drake.
Legends claim he fought off the orc-chieftains of the Red Gorge, tamed a thunderdrake with his bare hands, and held the Pass of Ruin for three winters with nothing but a dozen kin and a will of stone. He was no nobleman then—only a ruthless tactician, a patient hunter, and a man who knew how to bind others to a cause greater than vengeance.
But when famine struck and the old warbands turned on one another, Varric forged something new: a Mountain Pact. Under his iron discipline, clans who had warred for generations stood shoulder to shoulder. He promised them not just plunder, but a future—and he sealed that promise with the foundation of Fortress Drausthal , a fortress he built into the mountainside with stone wrested from the ruins of the Black Age.
By the time Drania was formally founded in 27 PBA, Varric was no longer merely a warlord. He was called Warden of the Ironhorn, protector of the eastern marches and loyal sword to the early kings of Dragness
. His descendants would bear the name of his fortress, and through their bloodline, his grim legacy of unity through strength would echo for centuries.
