High Flamewarden of the Emberlands

The High Flamewarden of the Emberlands is not merely a religious title — it is a sacred mantle carried by the Grand Duke of Vel Dran, binding the ruler to the spiritual heart of Drania’s draconic faith. As High Flamewarden, the duke is the supreme voice of the Flameborn tradition of Dragon Veneration, tasked with preserving its doctrines, enforcing its rites, and guiding its clergy through times of doubt and transformation.   This title predates even the formal founding of Drania, originating during the Age of Ash, when scattered cults of fire and draconic reverence were unified under a single vision of divine flame. The Flamewarden is seen not only as a temporal leader but as a living vessel of the Ember, believed to carry a fragment of ancient draconic fire within their soul. Each High Flamewarden is ritually anointed at the Ember Spire, and their reign is symbolized by the ceremonial flameblade Ashwrithe, which is never drawn in vanity.   In practice, the High Flamewarden wields immense influence across the south and beyond, with authority over temple networks, pilgrimage routes, and the sacred warrior orders of the Ashblades. Their decrees shape festivals, funerary customs, and even battlefield doctrine. Though they do not command all branches of Dragon Veneration , their interpretations carry doctrinal weight — and their silence, when it comes, speaks volumes.
