Chapter 3: The Hunt

After discovering the letter on their assaulters, the protagonists will try to figure out where or who to find next. The protagonists must travel throughout the FIC. The target destination is Walenstal. The cultists that operate out of there have been tasked with retrieving the weapon of the wise one. The cult needs the weapon to allow their deity to harm the gods, as it is the only object in existence that is able to do so.

Structure

Exposition

With the note in their minds, the protagonists attempt to investigate further into their assailents. The cult has become apparent that it is more widespread than originally thought, appearing to have headquarters in several cities within the FIC.

Conflict

The Cultists will try to recapture the weapon again, using more relentless tactics than before. Hostages and domestic terrorism are not out of the question for these fanatics.

Rising Action

The protagonists journey through the country trying to figure out where or who the "W" was referring to. When they arrive to Walenstal the cultists will be made aware of the weapons presence due to a mandatory magical items check the protagonists have to take part in upon entering the city. The Cult will then pursue the protagonists relentlessly through the city, with the help of some of the city guard. If the cult is unsuccessful in their initial attempts, they will either kidnap a PC, significant NPC, or attempt a form of domestic terrorism to acquire the Weapon of the Wise One. Optional: Help the governor of the city to gain a blessing and special access to the abandoned mines.

Climax

Using an odd box, the Cult can attract the godly items to them. The PC with the Weapon has to make a DC 15 strength saving throw, or the weapon is taken from them. If successful they will retreat into the abandoned adamantine mines in the mountains surrounding Walenstal. If they fail, they will take hostages into the abandoned adamantine mines. From there the can choses to pursue them, or forget about the item and continue without the weapon.

Falling Action

If the protagonists follow the cult into the abandoned mines then they can recapture the hidden weapon, or save the hostages. If the cult failed to initially capture the weapon, many encounters with the cultists will attempt to retry once the protagonist are in the mines. Within the mine, the protagonists can find plans to hide the remaining items, with both of them being shipped out of Walenstal just a few hours before the protagonists arrival. One item was sent north to Sladovia, and another was sent overseas to Ohes.

Resolution

If the protagonists keep the weapon, then they have reached the best possible outcome. The advantages will be explained in later parts of the campaign. If any hostages have been freed, the part will be rewarded by the government, granting them special status and allowing access to the blacksmiths for the city guard, medical grade potion shops.
