In the spring of 975 a freak storm rolled down from The Greater Cairnheels and dumped enormous amounts of rain onto the northwestern section of Varda. The storm inflicted major damage onto The Village of Wreath, where The Bluevein River swelled to incredible heights and swept away large portion of the town. Other affected settlements were Redbridge, Wolfsburg, and the capital of Varderal. Gemheart was largely unscathed, however, not for lack of being in the affected area. The section of the city above-ground raised its storm shutters to protect its structure and siege weapons.

Normally the storms that roll down from The Greater Cairnheels mature as they cross eastward towards the coast, but this storm practically exploded over the foothills of the mountain range. Not only that, but the prevailing winds would have had it proceed much more along a southward trajectory. When scholars tracked its path after it subsided, it seemed to follow the river with frightening accuracy.

A significant number survivors reported having difficulty sleeping after the event, some even years after its passing. Others reported an increase in planar bubbles and emergency rituals took place in many graveyards during the following days to prevent the raising of the dead, but some towns did not make that connection soon enough. Suffice to say, the effects of the Storm of 975 are still felt to this day.
