Tosun

If you see one Tosun, then there's probably at least some vegetation. If you see a group, then there's water there for sure.
— Guide to a traveller in the Fringel ands
Standing no more than 4 foot tall at the shoulder, these four legged herbivores have been known to save the life of many a folk travelling through the Fringe lands. They have a preference for succulents as a food source, and have an incredible knack for finding them wherever they grow.

Appearance

They have four long legs, which end in sharp cloven hooves, and short hair which covers their whole body. Their bodies are a light sandy colour, with their lower legs and faces a light brown, their bellies are almost white. They have large brown eyes with long thick lashes, that help filter the dust. The ears are the most prominent feature, being much too large for their narrow delicate heads, they are long and broad and taper into a point with a tuft of hair at the end.

Habitat

The Tosun live in the harsh environment of The Fringe lands, where food and water is scarce. During the summer months it gets extremely hot, this is one of the reasons they have such light fur, the large ears also help with heat dispersal. They subsist on most vegetation which can be found, however they have a particular fondness for succulents. They are capable of finding these tasty treats with unerring accuracy. No one is really sure how they do this but since succulents are an excellent substitute for water it is obviously an evolutionary survival trait.

Social

They live in small herds, usually no more than eight to ten, though they tend to roam loosely as food is scarce to find. They only have one offspring at a time, and usually no more than three over a lifetime. They have a short lifespan of sixteen to eighteen years old, though some can live to be as old as twenty.
