Ashari

An ashari is an individual who is descended from the residents of Ashar, an uncharted land across the Sea of Good Fortune. While some ashari do live in Tembra and Eremere and have done all their lives, they are often treated as outsiders due to their distinctive dark skin and dark blond hair.
The greatest concentration of ashari in the known world is centred in the Kalyrian Triarchy, where ethnicity is less important in success. There are also many ashari in the countries of southern Tembra, such as Shen, where darker skin tones exist within the native population and ashari can assimilate easier.
Upon arriving in Tembra or Eremere, most ashari adopt a new name more consistent with local naming patterns. Amery Porthouse's grandparents, for example, took the name 'Porthouse' shortly after arriving in East Port. Others, however, might simply modify their existing names, such as the ancestors of Petra Shameer. Very few retain their original names as it often impedes assimilation.
