Beyond the Mamari

"I've always been envious of those who live on the southern frontier. They are so seperated from the global politics of the world, able to live their lives as they wish." Elea Ma'Kabibi

The Southern Frontier

By the early-first era, the lands south of Ostenland and Imbelek were mostly unknown to most of the population. Only a select few traders and explorers traveled to Stelwen, and nobody had traveled to the southern continent of Barakal. This opportunity for discovery and adventure was all Elea needed to set out to document the lands beyond the Mamari.

Journey to the Fertile Land

Elea began his journey in the southeastern continent of Stelwen. He boarded a merchant ship headed to Mor Urrata, the largest port city in Derraken and the primary hub for travelers in Stelwen. Upon landing in the port city, Elea began his travels in Derraken and learned about the country's culture and the seemingly immortal Dreddar family that ruled it. For as strange and new everything was, the locals found him equally as strange, for most have never seen an Unganna before.
"When one normally thinks of rulers who seek to rule forever, they are seen as power hungry tyrants. Whether or not the Dreddars to fit this definition is up to interprtation, but you can't deny they are a unique phenomona. The same family has had a hold on Derraken for nearly two hundred years now, something that is unheard of elsewhere. Their rule, however, is more than that of monarchs, for they are the gods of this land. The people don't follow them as ordinaty leaders, they worship them as if they are all knowing and all powerful."- Elea Ma'Kabibi, Beyond the Mamari
While Elea found Derraken fascinating in its own right, what awaited him in Rocturra truly captured his attention. He began his journey in the northeastern province of Ugarra, taking in the wild and chaotic beauty of the Retkratora's creations. He would eventually travel westward to Syraskyes and the new capital of Rocutrra Mor Sectum, where he was able to learn a much about Rocturrran culture and the history of the Roctane as a people. Eventually, he made his way across the entire continent, ending his journey where he started. He learned much in Derraken and Rocturra, though he knew this was only the beginning of his adventure.
"The province of Syrakyes is perhaps the most fascinating of the Rocturran provinces. The Roctane have spent countless years shaping a new identity for themselves, but within Syrakyes are the remanents of their ancient past. Sometimes it feels as if they are trying to bury any connection they had to their ancestors in San Cardel." - Beyond the Mamari, Elea Ma'Kabibi

People of the Frigid South

"When I was told of a group of humans living in the southern frontier, I was skeptical. I thought that a remote group of elves, most likely Frost Elves, made their home there. You can imagine my suprise and excitement, dear reader, when I was proven wrong." - Beyond the Mamari, Elea Ma'Kabibi
After staying in Mor Urrata for a few years, Elea began his preparations to travel to the last frontier of Nostrina, Barakal. Unlike his journey to Stelwen, there was no guarantee of his return. Furthermore, he had to join a crew of smugglers who claimed to have traveled to Barakal to deliver goods to a group of humans living on the barren continent. The trip was expectedly treacherous, but the crew eventually landed in the town of Safalinda, the largest Watepo settlement on the continent. Elea took the rare opportunity to learn the history and customs of the isolated settlement. They welcomed the strange outsider for as long as he respected their ways. The Watepo elders told him the history of their people, from their arrival on the continent to the Scattering Years.   The smugglers Elea arrived with would eventually leave, agreeing to return in three months. Elea would stay in Safalinda to learn everything he could in Barakal. During this time, Elea spoke with the town's elders and other locals. He occasionally made treks beyond Safalinda with a sherpa to experience the unforgiving land himself and learn the Watepo's hunting methods. During one of these excursions beyond the safety of the town, Elea and his sherpa encountered the rare Teyoka, an elusive species of lesser dragon that the Watepo spoke of in their tales. Elea's encounter with the creature would be the first documented sighting of the previously unknown species.

Elea's Return

After his time among the Watepo, Elea returned to his home in Mor Urrata and began compiling his writings from his journeys. His writings would be printed and distributed in a book titled Beyond the Mamari. The book would eventually make its way north to Ostenland and Imbelek, becoming famous for its first-hand accounts of Barakal and Stelwen. Elea's work would become the primary resource for information on Barakal and indirectly sparked interest in trade with Stelwen. in the years following the book's publishing, Derraken and Rocturra were flooded by waves of foreigners first exposed to their lands by Elea's book.    After the book's publishing, Elea set his sights on the mysterious lands known as the Rift. Elea never returned from his travels to the Rift, and what happened to him and his crew remains a mystery to this day.
