A year is called a span; three-span is three years.
A month is called a turn. There are 28 days per turn. There are ten turns in a span, for a total of 280 days.
A season is called a cycle. There are three cycles in a span; the Cycle of Strife, the Cycle of Harmony, and the Cycle of Indifference.
Four weeks to a turn, and seven days to a week.
Religious holidays are on the days when the deity’s day lines up with their turn. For example, followers of
Chevalier celebrate each Semkuom during the Turn of Vigilance.
The Grey Goddess and
The Fed Goddess do not have holidays attributed to them. The 7th in the Turn of Man is observed as the Day of Man, as it is the earliest recorded day in history by mortals and the mark of the first span.
Formally, date is denoted as “The (Week Number) (Day) of (Turn), in the span of (Span Number)”; e.g., “The third Nimkuom of the Hammer, in the span of 8,000”.
Informally, people refer to the deity associations as a pair, “(Deity’s day) and (Deity’s turn)”; e.g., “When next
Chevalier and Ophemis battle,” for naming a date means Semkuom –
Chevalier's Day – during the Turn of the Cloak –
Ophemis. For the Turn of Man, “Man” is generally used for referring to the turn, such as, “When
Dulios is sticking it to the Man,” would mean Seuskuom in the Turn of Man. How it is expressed varies from person to person, but the order is always day and then turn, and conversation context is used to determine whether someone is designating a date.
Tepherial is currently in its 18,647th span.
