The Neurzhor

The Brotherhood for the Protection of the Bracers of Fáazuk. The have existed continuously since the defeat of Bružu Brubváb, the original ower of the bracers, towards the end of the God War. The bracers are so powerful that the brotherhood has sworn to keep them from the hands of those who would abuse them. They also prevent normal people from even being aware of them, let alone see or obtain them. They don't even trust themselves with them.   The location of the bracers is a tightly guarded secret. Very few know the actual location. However, there are many false locations and many false artifacts. At any one time only a handful of members know which location and which artifact is real. Magic is actively used to shield the location and identity from people, even to the extent that members of the Neurzhor can have memories magically wiped or altered regarding it utilizing a mekis̀luts.   Membership is by invitation only. One cannot request membership; that will result in immediate permanent disqualification. Requirements for membership are very stringent. When an individual is identified as a prospective candidate, a deep background check is done. Special investigators look into their previous activities to the extent possible and then the individual is tracked for a minimum of a year before the local members vote on allowing the prospective candidate into the initiation program. This program consists of an extensive battery of tests, generally done without the candidate even knowing they are a candidate. If they pass, they are gradually inducted. Most members are not even aware of the process until it nears completion. However, the cell they are being inducted to will be aware and are required to assist in the process.   Part of induction is a tattoo on the sole of the left foot of the emblem of the brotherhood . The ink used is a strong purple, with a slight magical component to help in verification of members and for preservation of the tattoo. Once inducted, members will always wear a purple token. This may be a tassel, a pendant, a ring, something on their clothing, or even purple makeup. It is generally subtle and designed to blend with the rest of their dress. They then have a system of subtle hand, body, and vocal signals that can be used to further identify membership within the brotherhood. The ultimate indication is the tattoo, but it is guarded.

Structure

The Neurzhor operate as a series of isolated cells. Most members know of only their cell. Cell leaders will know a controller above them and possible a one or more other cells. controllers also operate within cells. This continues to the top leadership. The structure is arranged in such a way that any one member only knows a handful of other members. The top leadership do not know any members beyond those that directly report to them, with the occasional exception. This allows plausible deniability across the organization.   Cells will sometimes work with one another, using their identifiers of membership to verify that they are part of the same structure. If a large number of cells have to work together, as sometimes happens, those cells are then split and scattered after the operation is completed.
