Meuzhzel Stadium
Meuzhzel Stadium was ordered constructed, along with the rest of the core of Nezhgub, by Meuzhzel the Wise when he conceived the idea of holding a tournament to solve the petty (to him) differences among the various city-states that fell within the domain of Nuerruoddel, as well as those with and among the neighboring nations.
Since the stadium was to represent the coming together of various cultures for the purpose of putting differences to rest, it was designed by the best architects from each of several different regions. They worked together to make the stadium, more than any other part of Nezhgub, a blending of the sensibilities of the various contributing regions. But since it is one of the largest buildings on the continent of Mishtz̀azey it is quite unique.
If nothing else, Meuzhel thought big. The stadium is shaped like a square with rounded corners. The outer width of each side is over 550 feet, while the action takes place in an area 300 feet across. The outer walls raise to over 65 feet. There is seating for over 30,000 spectators.
The stadium is designed to hold up to four simultaneous combats, each contained within it's own quadrant, while also allowing two or just one large combat. As such there is a series of walls that can be raised or lowered from the ground to divide up the stadium, as well as an announcer's podium in the exact center. The walls take several minutes to raise or lower, while the podium can be raised or lowered in about a minute (although it's usually slower for dramatic effect). The podium also has a quick escape for the announcer, allowing them to leave the podium in less than five seconds. There are also several deployable obstacles throughout the stadium, as well as quick-release cages, allowing wild animals or beasts to be released for combat.
There are several levels below the stadium, housing, among other things, the mechanisms that operate the various mechanical aspects of the stadium proper. These underlevels are maintained by a small army of maintenance workers in order to keep everything functioning perfectly.
Purpose / Function
Meuzhzel Stadium is home to the Nezhgub Tournament of Champions. It is also used for gladiatorial combat at other times as well as for large shows and other types of competitions.
