Advanced Mutagenic Research Facility

"Welcome to Project Amorphous, Dr. Preston." The captain had met him as the doctor left the hopper.   "Thank you, captain. So what is this project Dr. Xinomi has invited me to?"   "I'm sorry sir, The Director will have to tell you about it himself. I'm not authorized to even hear about some of what happens here."   "I had no idea it was so secretive."   "Yes, sir. But I just work here." They had arrived at a non-assuming metal door with a simple scanner. The captain held his ID up to it, then his palm. The door slid open.

Project Amorphous developed the most advanced mutagenic compounds available at the end of the Second Age. Led by Dr. Tirrien Xinomi, their work with bioengineering and mutagenics came close to successfully creating genetically modified humans with advanced abilities.

Purpose / Function

The AMRF is the first facility purpose built to further research and development of mutagenic technologies. The most advanced research that is currently available is done within the walls of the AMRF.

History

Scientists first started experimenting with mutagenic materials in 6345 SA. Various existing biological research facilities continued researching mutagenic possibilities.   The AMRF was conceived in 6364 SA, with final plans completed in late in 6366 SA. Due to the nature of the research and the volatility of some of the proposed subjects, construction took place over the span of more than ten years. The administrative wing and first low security labs were brought online in 6369 SA. The construction of the higher security labs, buried in the bedrock below the facility continued until the highest security labs were brought online in 6377.   During The Event in 6448 SA, the upper levels were destroyed, leaving the lower, more secure levels, intact. However, the nightmares held with the lower levels gradually escaped, so that by the end of the long winter that followed, all that remained was the medical and industrial apparatuses that once made the facility operate.   Of course, the mutagenic materials that were produced in bulk by the facility also remained. These were later discovered during the third age and helped accelerate the bio-engineering research of that time. But the facility was never fully explored during that time and some of the materials could possibly remain.
