Bifrost Galactic System

Scope

The motivation behind building Bifrost Galactic System

We are building an expansive Space Opera galaxy with various factions and a huge collection of planets and locations for exploration.

The goal of the project

We're hoping to actually create and finish an extremely complex and expansive world.

Bifrost Galactic System's Unique Selling point

It's truly the travel technology, and the bredth of the world. We have dozens of star systems and planets, each with their own flavors and politics.

Theme

Genre

This world is a space opera, with both utopian and dystopian elements depending upon individual character's perspectives.

Reader Experience

This world feels vast and cold, with corporations and organizations reaching far out into the universe.

Reader Tone

If you're fortunate enough to be wealthy or highly skilled, this world is very bright. If you're poor or a spacer, this world is extremely dark.

Recurring Themes

1. Vast galactic empire with little ability to communicate across that distance. 2. Urban worlders live in lavish comfort, while laborers work and toil until they die. 3. Corruption is rampant. A necessary price for such a large civilization.

Character Agency

A character in this world has very limited agency. There are trillions of people in this galaxy, and travel between any two worlds can take days or even weeks. A character's impact is generally localized.

Focus

Government Presence: Information is the most expensive resource in the galaxy. With communications unable to move faster than light, a government with multiple star systems may struggle to lead from a centralized location.
Class Relations: With urban worlders knowing very little about what it takes to actually keep the lights on, and the working class living in sweatshop conditions, socioeconomic divides couldn't be wider.
Law and Order: How does one police territory when it may take months to even get news about what's happening there?

Drama

Humanity nearly lost it's foothold in the early decades of colonization. It lead to a war that ended in the total genocide of the agressing species.
The New Eden Collective broke away from the NTNC after a disagreement about environmental rights. Was the break as peaceful as it seemed?
A planet in New Eden space went dark recently. Blocades prevent any entry to the space around it. Why?
The outer reaches are crawling with pirates, and the OSA is finding it harder and harder to stop their advances. How long will it be until the pirates are able to get near a colonized world?
Server Ships are the new gold wagon of their day. Communications and information fetch far more than any physical resource.
