The Dire

The Dire's are creatures found on both Asgard, Vanaheim and Svartalfheim, and are creatures of gargantuan size that live in the wilds. The common types are Wolves, Bears and Boars, though serpents have been seen upon occassion. The hunting, capture, or slaying of these creatures is seen as a status symbol amongst the Human warbands of Asgard and amongst the Human and Jotunborn Stalkers of Svartalfheim tribal communities.

On Asgard they are found in the Wildlands; the islands which are not controlled by one of the three nations. It is said that they used to roam the whole of the realm, but after Ragnarok the early settlers hunted them out of the lands they were colonising. The Dires, then not used to being hunted so, were easier to fell. They are now wary and extremely dangerous.

On Svartalfheim they have always been wary, and have always been dangerous. There are also a lot more of them here than on Asgard, and most of the tribal communites need to constantly move to avoid their detection. Whole tribes have been wiped out by attacks by packs of Dires.
