Stockcross East Gate
Located against the great stone wall in the east of the city is one of numerous guardhouses.
Purpose / Function
This particular guardhouse acts as a local courthouse for small scale issues such as petty theft and assualt. They have several small cells for rowdy citizens or criminals awaiting trial, a local Minister is appointed to oversee fines and punishment. It also contains rest rooms, an armoury and small forge in the courtyard to maintain the guard's equipment.
Architecture
The guardhouse is built from large cut siltstone placed in tight rows that climb nearly 50ft against the inner wall. The roof is composed of slate tiles that slope up to the wall to create a single angle to drain water and snow.
There are slits cut into the stone at the higher levels for archers to shoot through and a single wooden pallisade around the thrid level with a walkway for the same purpose.
There is one single door that grants ingress to the guardhouse made from iron bound oak. There is normally a guard posted at this door to keep watch over the busy street.
