Splinter Atoll
A string of islands and reefs crossing cutting Stillwater Sound off from the Eastern ocean, protecting the inner lands of Beru from the violent storms that can sweep in. Ships often run aground here, giving the atoll its infamous name. Because of this both the Kingdom of Breaton & Driston Empire have constructed outposts and lighthouses on the wider channels to guide vessels through the deadly sandbars and jagged rocks.
While most of the islands are too small for any major settlements to be founded there is one exception at the northern end of the chain called Leto. This island has no settlements other than a single fortress founded in 1129 by the Driston Empire to guard the deepwater channel that flows at this islands southern point. This specific passage was chosen as Kulap already guarded the northern channel, and with this fortress the Driston Empire had control of the two major routes through the island chain.
