Leto Island

Geography

Leto's size allows it to have a varied terrain that includes steep cliffs along the coast, rolling hills, forests and open prairies.    The cliffs that cover the island's north and eastern shores climb over 100ft over the water, standing resolute against the storms that drive into the Sound from the open sea. Constructed from tough limestone that shines in the sun like marble in the early morning, sailors use this beacon to navigate toward Kulap and the Leto Straight, one of the northern passages through the Splinter Atoll.   Located on the islands northern quarter is a small temperate rainforest of lush green mosses, firs and oaks. Several rare plants can be found here prized by alchemists and botanists for their unique properties in both medical and magical fields of research.    Leto's centre is filled with rolling hills and valleys that provide fresh water from springs and small rivers that flow towards the sea on the western shore. The valleys contain wildlife such as deer and rabbit that sustain any wayward travellers and the garrison at the southern tip.

Climate

Leto island is battered by frequent storms from the sea and blizzards from the north that roll down from Yillan Ridge in the winter blanketing the island in fields of white. These conditions provide Leto with plentiful fresh water year round creating the temperate rainforest on its northern shore and marshes that rest in the numerous valleys along the interior.    During the summer months the southern reaches of the island become drier, almost desert-like being subjected to high temperatures and minimal rainfall.
