Latham

Latham is a small trading village of around 1000 people to the east of Stockcross. The village was founded to act as a stopping point for people moving to Timberfall from the southern parts of the Kingdom of Breaton. Latham rests on one of the main tributaries to the Pelen Way that flows in the northern parts of the Kingdom, flooding The Heartwood. Other than trade, Latham has no major importance to the Kingdom and is often the subject to bandit raids, attacks from wild creatures & rife with crime.

Demographics

The people here have no notable wealth, many live simple lives of self sufficience with small holdings. There is a mix of races that love nature, including halflings, gnomes, elfs and humans.

Government

Latham is ruled by a minister appointed by the King. The current, and so far only, minister is Shen Tanrok, an elderly elf who founded the settlement.

Defences

Though the town is not protected by any fortifications like walls or ditches its natural boundries act as a deterrent from any major attacks. The Kingdom of Breaton does maintain a small military force here though they are considered some of the least trained or disiplinced within the Crown's forces, earning them the nickname "Greenleafs"

Industry & Trade

There is a small hunting community that venture into the foothills ofYillan Ridge & The Heartwood supplying the town with fresh game & pelts.

Infrastructure

The village relys on the river that flows through it for most of its transportation needs, moving goods down to the Pelen Way to Timberfall or sending trade caravans south to Ostervand. Brave traders sometimes use the village as a preperation point before venturing towards Frostbane.

Architecture

Most of the houses here have been built using local trees that gives the whole village a wholesome, rustic charm. Many of the homes have deep green mosses & vines growing up their sides and roofs creating an extension of the woodland into this artificial space

Climate

Yillan Ridge and The Heartwood dictate the weather patterns of Latham. The winters are cold and snowy as storms blow down from the mountains, and the summers are warm and wet for the same reason.
