Razor Quills Military Formation in Belthuran | World Anvil

Razor Quills

The Razor Quills or as some may still refer to them, the Dragon Riders are an elite force of the Anrasha, a term not used lightly given they are well versed in the ways of war and combat as they practice both daily. During the dark age, the dragons found refuge within the borders of Etrisium and some chose to help defend this sanctuary against their and the Anrasha's common enemies. This gave rise to the first of the Dragon Riders, one of the Razor Quills would enchant a special set of equipment to allow them to move freely on the back of a dragon in combat and serve as a turret to deal with the far more agile Roc Riders from Rhyderia. While few in number the combo was truly deadly, the Razor Quills do not work with dragons frequently anymore as most of them returned to Mordereth, the skills of the Razor Quills are still used on Anrashan Raider ships.

Composition

Manpower

There are less than a hundred of the Razor Quills in active service, the practice is a dying art as many Anrasha are far more concerned with their pleasure and position to dedicate themselves to the training of the Razor Quills.

Equipment

While most of the Anrasha prefer their designs of crossbow the Razor Quills prefer to use bows, aside from heavy enchantments they use a fairly standard longbow. Few wear anything above medium armor as they value their mobility as it is a core part of what they do. They have either component pouches or spell focuses with them and have a variety of climbing gear, unique arrows, and potions.

Weaponry

A longbow is the most common choice with some using shortbows depending on where they are stationed. For melee weapons, they often use smaller more agile weapons preferring a very acrobatic and movement heavy fighting style that makes them hard to pin down.

Vehicles

For much of their history, the Razor Quills use the Anrashan Raider style craft a long and thin vessel with a broad bow but little other protection on the deck. It is two floors with the crew sleeping below deck as well as storing any valuable cargo they come across. The deck has rails for mounting the preferred weapon by the normal crew Anrashan heavy repeaters, which are a weapon emplacement version of a repeater crossbow. A single ballista sits at the front of the bow and is used often for targeting rudders or shredding sails. The most deadly feature is what most would consider a crow's nest, this is where the Razor Quill is stationed where they can let loose their volleys of precise and deadly arcane arrows. These raider craft often work in groups of 3-5 and given their small size, at least in ship scale, are hard for a larger ship to ship weapon to hit and they are very fast and agile holding 15 crew at most.

Training

Years and years of bow practice under all manner of conditions from high winds, storms, blizzards, the rocking of a ship at sea, and even in the air. Further, they must also study and practice magic and a means to infuse their arrows with magic at a whim and alter the arrow to suit their needs all through magic in seconds.
