Session 21: Hatching & Hunting Report
General Summary
After taking a couple of days to rest up after their brutal encounter in the ancient ruins, Darnalore, Icarus and Ophellia prepare to hatch the basilisk eggs using Darnalores druidic magic. They gather their materials to build hatching nests for each egg, and then in the mansions prisons hatch the basililsks and let them try and imprint on their respective owners. (Icarus and Ophellia)
The Imprinting goes well, and then Ophellia and Icarus go and tell their parents that they are now grandparents, introducing them to 'Bob' and 'The Builder'. (Still hate those names) After that, they then plan to go hunt down some wolf pelts for some extra cash. Enroute to the forest, they hear cries of help. They find a rabbitfolk woman trapped in a tower, surrounded by a pack of drakes. After a brief scuffle, the party easily dispatch the pack and save the rabbitfolk, who begs the party to go and save her sister, who was chased into the woods by some of the drakes.
While Darnalore is learning about the sister, Ophellia notices that all of the drakes are wearing black collars. Hearing about the sisters plight, the rabbitfolk climbs back into the tower to wait the parties return, as they rush into the woods to save her. After a few minutes tracking the path of the drakes through the woods, they come across the clearing where a pack of drakes are surrounding a prone form in the grass. Combat ensues, where shortly after more drakes join the fight from the nearby woods and a large flying form, joins the battle. The strange winged creature resembles a dragon, but also doesn't. After a brief but brutal fight, the party are left hurt but alive. All these drakes as well as the larger flying beast all wearing similar black collars that ophellia noticed on the ones attacking the rabbitfolk back at the tower. The prone body is that of a male wolfkin, who has clearly been dead for hours at this point.
Darnalore sends Liath to check on the rabbitfolk, only to find her missing with no sign of her. Ophellia recognises the emblem upon the collars as that of The Black Wings mercenary group. She recounts what she remembers from her own world/timeline, where the Black Wings are an organisation comprised of several mercenary groups taht operate independantly from one another, but are under the command of an unknown figure known as the Heretic. Many of the groups in the Black Wings are wanted for crimes against various religious orders. She also recounts that the Shadow Blades who attacked Tanjarr during the festival were one such group that served under the banner of the Black Wings. The party decide to rest and camp in the forest, before continuing their wolf hunt the following day.
