FjallHuruhuRo

Mountain Rhino

The Mountain Rhino is an important animal for the Dwarf culture. They are the only uplifted race which still have its origin species living in the Realm. Others origin species have been lost through history. Fjal are peaceful creatures that live in the high cliffs of the Ti Sti'duram'iti mountains.

Almost nothing hunts them as they have adapted well to their harsh and inaccessible home. They are quick, nimble, unusually sure footed and easily spooked. Hunting them is still a traditional sport in Dwarven culture even though they are currently in decline.
Mountain Rhino products are very rare now, and rarely seen outside of Dwarven possession, this has occurred because in the 238s of the 32045th Rs, it was discovered that the previously disposed Rhino milk was a narcotic and hallucinogenic drug for practically every uplifted or evolved species, but not Dwarves. This increased the demand for captured Rhinos or at least milked Rhinos for many centuries. The Dwarven civil government along with both the Paragons and the Brotherhood managed to finally control this rampant hunting of the species and have now implemented successfully implemented a domestic program to harvest the milk and maintain the species. Hunting while Fjal is strictly controlled by the Dwarven civil government. Ironically, there is a seriously elite tourist economy managed by the Mountaineers.

Basic Information

Anatomy

These creatures are quadrapedel herbivores. They have tough leather hide covering a thick layer of insulating fat. They have excellent night vision and hearing. They have a single solid large mineral and bone horn on the front of the head directly above their nose.

Genetics and Reproduction

They have two biological sexes. One alpha herd male will mate with each female of his heard. Their gestation period is a short 4 months, and female births are 30% more common the male births.

Growth Rate & Stages

They mature slowly, spending several years with their mothers in the safety of the herd. Males around their seventh year break away from their brith herd with a few favored females to lead their own.

Ecology and Habitats

They are never seen outside of the high mountain ranges of the Ti Sti'duram'iti or the high plateaus. The capital of Skala-Tuq has in the last few thousand years successfully developed a domestic breeding program for conservation purposes and economic opportunity.
