Fire Dancing

In the sky of Az'atla are two moons. Some say that the Devouring Mother used to be one moon, which explains the name of the Realm .... Az-Atla Realm of the Lost Moon. She came down from the sky to help her citizens because she watched them struggle and loved us so greatly. Or, perhaps she is truly lost and greatly desires to return to her own place above the world.
"Fire dancing either honours Her sacrifice or helps ease Her pain." Aleekis Sag, Human, Professional Tourist.

Fire Dancing is a strange and beautiful mix of fire control and art. The skill required to fight a blazing inferno, naked, with nothing but fire resistant boots is one that is to be admired and respected. This ritual has been a key ritual for citizens of Gle'lanèrino since the 15th century of the Restoration. This ritual has had many transformations, but at its core has remained the same.

History

Fire Dancing began in the Glaze (Gle'lanèrino) when new settlements were constructed, the grass had to be cleared. This was done, and is still done, by burning.
The Outriggers, Medicaments, and civil governments select a site, make it safe and prepare it, and then when one of the Consort's is new (or both), the fire to clear the area is lit.
This is where the dancing begins.

Execution

An area of the Glaze is selected for a new settlement. The area is cleared of animals, and a large fire break built around it.
On a selected night of a new moon, the leader of the new settlement lights the fire to clear the area selected, from it's centre.
If the settlement is to be build, the prospective leader must survive the blaze, and the Fire Dancers facilitate that. They may not touch or directly assist the leader, but may beat back, direct, or manipulate the fire.
The Dance lasts even after the prospective leader leaves the blaze to protect the Glaze and honour the Devouring Mother. Some dances have lasted days with Dancers falling from exhaustion because the dance continues until the area is cleared of grass.

Components and tools

The prospective leader gets the clothes they wear, a torch to start the blaze which starts the Dance and one bottle of water.
The Fire Dancers only have protective boots which they dance the fire.

Participants

There is always the prospective leader, and based on the area a set number of Fire Dancers.

How the leader of the new settelement leaves the blaze is seen as a prediction of the prosperity of the settlement as the character of the new leader is tested. No leader wishes to run from the blaze, as that is considered cowardly and the settlement will be ill fated.
And, the dance must balance the need to clear the area with the overall safety of Gle'lanèrino.
Do Fire Dancers die?  Rarely, as other Dancers quickly retrieve them.
