Shadow Code

Summary

The Shadow Code is used by The Silent Shadows to send messages out in the public domain to their operatives.

Usage

The main usage of the Shadow Code is to provide the passphrases for access to the headquarters. The passphrases are different for each division and they change on a monthly basis, therefore that has to be a able to disseminate the phrases to their members publicly that would not draw obvious attention. The Shadow Code is used in documents that would appear on the surface to be real documents, but within the text there is a secret message only those trained in the Shadow Code will be able to glean. Though, mostly used for share passphrases, some times there is a necessity or opportunity to include a section of Shadow Code in an official document if the sender and recipient are both Silent Shadow members operating in the public world. There are varying formats that the Shadow Code itself can take.

Formats

The first sentence or paragraph in the Shadow Code document will indicate what format the Code will take.

First/Last

If the first sentence begins 'firstly' for instance, this is an indication to take the first letter or word from the following sentences or paragraph form the actual message. Likewise, if it suggests something along the lines of 'at last', this is the same idea, instead taking the last letter or word.

Left/Right

Similarly to the first/last format, the left/right format takes either the letters down the left hand side of the document or the right side to form the passphrase.

Relative

A letter written by a 'relative' is sometimes used. This will take the appearance of a relative writing to the member informing of all the goings on of the family as a whole. However, if the words taken directly after the mention of each family member are strung together as a sentence, this is the secret phrase.
