Mortis
There is a place that with souls go to in death. Whether they be a tyrant, a hero of revolution, a demi-god, or an easily forgotten peasant, they all come to this place. Mortis, also known as the Plane of Judgement and the realm of souls. Here, great pacts and deals have been made to bring peace to the universe. And all are judged and sent to the realm that best suits them for their afterlife. It is the place where the Raven Queen has her sole domain. And it is where all gods and outsiders dare not tread in such a way to infuriate her. For all wish to make sure the souls they deserve are delivered to him.
Geography
Like the other Infinite planes, Mortis is a plane of the afterlife but unlike the others, it reflects the other worlds of the Physical Plane. One vast continent, broken into regions is all that exists on the realm. However the continent can seem infinite if you go in certain directions as it constantly expands with the influx of souls from all over the universe. It is believed that Mortis is not just connected to the world of Avestra but countless worlds even further beyond. But all of them come to Mortis.
The notable regions are the Six Holds, the Field of Neutrality, and the Raven's Citadel. The Six Holds are named as such because they house the gates to the six major inifite planes. Each hold is influenced by its gate and the denizens of each realm and those tied closest to them even stay in these regions. Except for Deismos' Hold where the Daemons and their ilk are not allowed to step foot in Mortis. Only demons and devils are allowed to reside in that blasted heathe, in an attempt to convince souls not to spend the rest of their afterlife in Deimos and join them instead.
The Field of Neutrality is where those who had no strong hold to any of the planes reside. It is also where souls must past through on their way to be judged at the Raven's Spire. Mortem resides in this land, tending to a cabin where he lives alone with visitors here and there. It also puts him close to the Raven Queen should the two of them need to speak.
And annoiting the realm is the Raven's Citadel at the sent of the Lake of Rememberance. The lake is where elves and those who wish to reincarnate delve into to return to Avestra while the Raven's Citadel is where all souls are judged. Countless courts exist for wardens to judge the dead and sentence them, the greatest of which exists at the top of the Raven's Spire where the Raven Queen holds court. There, the greatest souls and even those who might ascend to godhood or become powerful outsiders are judged by her.
History
As the infinite Planes came to be, there had to be a way to decide who would get what souls. Especially with so many forces chomping at the bit for them. What was at first a place for those who were truly neutral began the site of where the Raven Queen would make her home and where all souls would be judged. Of course, this was not without contest by other Outsiders. Only the Lyxons and Káno accepted her judgement while the others rose against her. Deals were made and in the end, the World eater of @deimoswas stubborn in their drive for souls. And it was one of the few times that the Raven Queen herself fought as she, joined with other gods, waged war against the elder Daemon and sealed them away, forcing the other Daemons to accept whatever souls she gave them.
From that point on, the Raven Queen became a neutral force in the universe and Mortis served as the Plane of Judgement. Even during the Blood War, no one dared touch it. It wasn't until the X'ith'ila came that the realm was under threat. However, the Raven Queen did not fight this time, letting her wardens defend the souls under threat. Many questioned why and if this meant it was finally the end of days until the Eternals returned to the universe. Their efforts along with the mortals helped to win the war.
The realm has healed since that event but the Wardens and the Queen are forever vigilant all the same. As is the Eternal resident who has made it his mission to never let souls be stolen or be threatened by something like that again. And so Mortis shall remain, until the end of the universe when the last souls are judged and the fate of the universe is decided.
