Tarotic Gods
The Tarotic Gods are a group of entities that arrived within the planar spheres at the same time the chronans arrived on Phoenix. According to their prophet, they are entities based off the Earth concept of a tarot deck, a set of divination cards that function similarly to the luminary cards of Lothian culture.
Worshippers of the Tarotic gods can be found primarily within Solspathí. They typically have at least one chronan relative or are chronan themselves; however, the faith has slowly been making its way into other cultures with mixed results depending on who you ask.
Structure
The Tarotic pantheon features four deities that serve as guardians for the chronan people and symbolize their struggle on a distant planet known as Earth. These deities are the Fortunate Fool, the Hermetic Magician, the Towering Death, and the Sunknight Star.
These deities can combine into separate entities in times of need. The Fortunate Fool and Hermetic Magician can combine to form Justice. The Sunknight Star and Towering Death can combine to form Judgement.
Three lesser-known deities serve beneath the main four. The The Hanged Man wanders the Material Plane. The Devil is believed to still be somewhere on Earth, trapped in a form of self-imprisonment. The Moon is trapped within the base of the Ashen Tower.
The gods share two courts of heralds that collectively serve them. The Court of Lovers is made up of the various lovers each god has taken across their many lifetimes. The Court of Temperance is made up of the children of each of the Tarotic Gods.
According to legend, all these entities can combine into an omnipotent being known as the World, but there are no records of this ever occurring.
These strange deities have begun trying to work in tandem with the gods of Phoenix to acclimate to this new world. The Sunknight Star has allied himself with the Imperators, the Hermetic Magician with the Overseers, the Towering Death with the Exarchs, and the Moon with the Dominion. The Devil, Hanged Man, and Fortunate Fool are considered Itinerants.
History
The history of the Tarotic Gods before their arrival on Phoenix is largely unknown. What is known is that early in the year 1553, a mysterious ship from the stars landed in the Diocese of Solspathí. The captain of the ship, a massive chronan, was traveling with a group of settlers. He introduced himself as Nathan McCoy, the Prophet of Strength, and said that the chronans came from a distant space-traveling civilization. They were simply explorers looking for a place to settle.
Saint Cian Oliva-Rex was a little wary but welcomed the chronans to his country on the condition that the Prophet of Strength join the Council of Archbishops to help the chronans learn Solspathí customs.
Since this agreement, the chronans and their faith has slowly begun to spread through Phoenix. Many of the Tarotic faithful live as Solspathí citizens; however, temples and shrines have slowly begun to crop up in nooks and crannies across Phoenix.
