Primordials

The Primordials are the gods of chaos that reside within Bedlam. They are infamous for their fickle nature. No two primordials are alike. The structure of their pantheon is so convoluted and ever-changing that many have mistaken certain primordials for itinerant gods.

Due to their hand in causing the Thousand Year Flood, not many on Phoenix's surface worship the Primordial Gods. The Four Nations only accept one primordial, Ki, who is surprisingly one of Phoenix's most popular deities. Beneath the surface; however, the Primordials are very popular within Cryptland city states and the undersea realm of the Vast.

Much like their gods, no two Primordiac worshipers act the same. Some sects form temples; others do not even interact with one another. Theological debate is very common within Primordiac faiths. These debates, for followers of certain primordials, can sometimes spiral into fights or even battles.

Structure

Due to the chaotic nature of the Primordials, there is no set structure of organization amongst them. The pantheon is held together by a complex series of alliances, favors, and loyalties that are constantly changing. Each god rules over their domain of Bedlam in their own way. The one consistency of their structure is that Ezzoal, oldest among them, will forever reign as queen of the pantheon.

History

Many believe that the spark of war came from Ezzoal's Thousand Year Flood that covered the Material Plane for one thousand years, but this is a misconception. The true spark of war came from the death of Zuva at the hands of the Overseers. While the true culprit is not known, Ezzoal flooded the Material Plane, the symbol of cooperation between the gods of order and chaos, all the same.

The war raged for centuries till the planes began to unwind and the number of gods began to dwindle. When fears of the end of planes themselves began to overshadow the anger of war, an uneasy truce was decided amongst the gods of order and chaos, and two prisoners were given to each side to ensure that no war would spark again, lest those prisoners be killed. The Primordials received Overseer Jiro-Kani and sacrificed Nellith to the Overseers.

As the planes were being rebuilt and balance was restored, fourteen gods remained in Bedlam to continue their role as the gods of chaos. They were called Primordial Gods, or simply Primordials, due to their ancient nature of acting solely on their whims rather than by a code.

Primordials— other than Ki— rarely interact with the Material Plane unless it is through their followers that live there. Many of them still harbor deep anger about the trust that was broken by Zuva's death and refuse to grace any being but their followers with their blessings these days. Despite this, surface residents of Phoenix fear for the day that the Primordials grace the Material Plane with their presence once more, bringing all the powers of chaos alongside them.
