Arcstone Material in Avaria | World Anvil

Arcstone

Arcstones are Avarite refined into a gems and enchanted with wonderous magics. These stones can be worked into weapons, armour and jewellery. This is an intricate and often dangerous process and it takes an artisan of great skill to combine expertise in Jewelcrafting and the enchantment school of magic. In the Empire, these individual are knowns as Arcsmiths. Due to their long life and affinity for the arcane, nearly all master Arcsmiths are Aelvari but several promising humans have recently begun to rise in skill.    All kind of magical effects can be stored in an Arcstone, from subtle protection enchantments to captured elemental creatues allowing those without knowledge of the arcane arts to heal themselves, disappear from sight or hurl balls of destructive energy. Most major cities use larger Arcstones to power their most advanced technology, from defence to the arts a sufficiently powerful Arcstone can allow for the wild energies of mana to be safely used by everyday folk.   The Avarite crystals needed to make Arcstones are collected found near catalysts all over Avaria and collecting this rarest of materials is a dangerous but lucrative pursuit, and rights to mine veins are hotly contested. Each faction of the Crystalline Council has agreed to share the discovered sources of Avarite, normally areas of unstable magic known as Catalysts. By combining the Arcana expertise the Aelvari with the mining and excavation experience of the Dwarves, the ambition of the Humans and the ingenuity of the Gnomes, rapid advances in Arcstone technology have been made over the last eighty years. A mighty example is the devastating Spell Amplicfication Matrix mounted on The Paragon.
