Kadrisa Lrevgm

The Witch of Darkness

I don't care what they say about your kind of magic. I know you! You're a bit cold and reserved, but you're a good person and you're trying to do the right thing. That matters more than the color of your spells.
Kadrisa is a young witch from one of the tribes in Western Kinavi and best friends with Lazul Paz. She is a snarky and argumentative teen blessed (or cursed, depending on who you ask) with a strong connection to dark Magic. Friends would describe her as tiny but fierce.

Divine Domains

Destruction, Corruption

Divine Symbols & Sigils

A purple flame, as well as her serpent familiar

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Supposedly, to defeat the Sovereign.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

While her studying and training has generally enriched her mind, it has left her physical form in many regards. Kadrisa has below-average strength (even for her physically-weak race) and somewhat poor reflexes, though she is 'healthy' (for effectively a reanimated corpse) and has an immune system resistant to poison or disease. Curtsy of her race she is able to hold her breath for nearly ten minutes at a time.

Body Features

She is extremely beautiful by Avani standards. Her feathers are dark blue, with orange around her neck and some white near her undertail coverts. While her physical form is attractive, certain circumstances bring out her deformed, magic-scarred astral form, reflecting the true nature of her soul. It clearly shows that she is partially digested, undead, and a frequent user of dark magic. Needless to say, this form is not so pretty.

Identifying Characteristics

Her feathers have slight markings on her arms and back, almost as if they were burned, that come from her extensive use of magic.

Physical quirks

Kadrisa has a number of physical tics and habits due to her use of dark magic and undead body. For one, she is often shaking and shivering even when in warm weather. She often suffers from a running nose (likely a symptom of early-stage soul sickness) and serious headaches. Occasionally, her body will secrete a sticky black substance very similar to the liquid magic left behind by Fallen Apogees, hinting at her undead nature. She faintly glows in moonlight, and when using particularly powerful spells most of her body except her skeleton becomes slightly transparent (Soren Pashad says it looks really creepy). After using a powerful spell, her feathers will often turn a sickly shade of dark blue and white/purple streaks will cover her face.

Special abilities

If you ever mess with me or my friends again, I will make your torment so terrible you will beg for me to tear open your chest and spill out your guts
— Kadrisa
Kadrisa is an extremely powerful witch, capable of using a variety of magical types. While she knows one or two healing spells and can utilize a number of basic abilities related to the Redemption domain, she specializes in Dark Magic. She can instantly destroy objects from a distance, cause living tissue to temporarily wither away at her touch, summon magical flames that she can control, and even trade pieces of her soul to instantly cast just about any spell. Previously thought impossible for a magician of darkness, she was also able to summon herself back from the dead. All of this magic and her undead nature seems to have taken a serious toll on her, but in spite of warnings she continues the path for more knowledge and power.   While she has brought herself back from the dead once, she doubts that she could do it again. Even if she could, being resummoned is known to degrade one's personality and soul.

Apparel & Accessories

Please don't bend over. I do NOT want to see that. Why don't civilians ever wear clothes?
— Soren Pashad
Like most Avani who aren't nobility or military, Kadrisa does not usually wear much when the weather allows it. When she does, she usually chooses dark blue or black robes adorned with golden accents and a deep red or purple layer underneath, signifying her status as a witch and her connections to royalty. She always tries to wear a belt full of various magical substances and carries a polished stick (which her familiar often wraps itself around). Lazul gave her a silver necklace with the Paz family seal.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

All my life I've seen my friends disappear. I refuse to let that happen to you
— -Kadrisa, to Soren Pashad
Kadrisa's family lineage is unclear. She hatched from an unmarked egg, hidden in the waters of a swamp near lake Talahoe, protected by the coils of a poisonous serpent even the Apogees fear. When she was found by the local tribe, their tribe-witch immediately recognized this as a sign that the hatchling carried an intrinsic connection to dark magic.   Kadrisa was raised as one of the tribe's own, but from the beginning she sensed that something was wrong with her. The elders of the tribe always watched her closely, especially the tribe-witch. Meanwhile, those close to her seemed to get hit with tragedy after tragedy. Her adopted family began to suffer from Soul Sickness soon after her hatching, while many of her childhood friends would mysteriously disappear into the woods (presumably eaten by monsters or turned by Apogees). Fields she helped tend to would wither and die days later. Poisonous serpents and Fallen Apogee always seemed to lurk wherever she was around. With her relatively high intelligence, she began to suspect that she was the common link between these terrible accidents.   The final nail in the coffin came, fittingly, from her own death ("I know its kinda morbid," she says, "but I kinda get a kick out of it. It's a really fun party story"). At the young age of six, she was attacked by a Draconbird, burned alive, and swallowed whole. The tribe-witch cut her free from the creature's stomach, but it was too late. She had already been digested beyond the point that anything could heal her. However, this event activated the extreme Magic flowing within Kadrisa. Higher tier Magicians of Darkness (often called Liches), through the horrific art of necromancy, are capable of temporarily summoning the dead to serve their whims: somehow, Kadrisa managed to do it to herself permanently. She assures readers that she would never eat anyone's brains.   Now undead and aware of her magical potential, Kadrisa decided to begin learning all she could about Dark Magic. She soon obtained a magical familiar, a small green serpent that follows her around, and quickly advanced beyond even the abilities of the tribe's magicians. By the time she met Lazul Paz at the age of eight, she knew more about spells than anyone else in her tribe.   Lazul and Kadrisa quickly became friends, and she began to occasionally visit Cyanni as often as his family visits lake Talahoe. When he began his career as a diplomat, it was only fitting that she would go with him. They've travelled across the world together, from the mountains and deserts of Jasani to the distant city of Terazi. They would do just about anything for each other (she insists it's purely platonic, like if she had a really hot sibling).

Employment

For the past three years, Kadrisa has travelled the world alongside Lazul and his recent diplomatic expeditions. She openly practices dark magic (though if they are in a place that dark magic is particularly risky, such as most kingdoms under the Treaty of Passaran, she poses as a servant to avoid attention.)

Intellectual Characteristics

Okay, maybe I don't know how to read, but I'm still basically a genius. There's just not many scrolls on the savannah.
— Kadrisa
Kadrisa is quite intelligent (especially for someone her age) and has studied extensively in Cyanni to learn more. Thus, she is adept at reasoning and recalling information about history, nature, and magic. Her heritage from the tribal territories has also gifted her good survival skills and an ability to investigate things. She knows four languages, including the archaic Kahdro. In spite of her mental abilities, to her embarrassment, she doesn't know how to read.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Kadrisa is only interested in a few things: knowledge, power, and protecting those she cares about. Usually she seeks the first two to accomplish the third. She would do just about anything to help her friends, even things that are morally ambiguous or downright evil. However, she also hopes to eventually gain the power to help herself with something she has been suffering with for a long time...

Social

Religious Views

She... isn't the most religious individual in Avanima. While true organized religion is rare in her homeland to begin with, just varieties of animism and local superstitions, her very existence conflicts with some religious beliefs and is considered abominable by others. Necromancy, unlike resurrection magic, is generally considered evil and banned by many nations, while the undead are considered 'lesser' than their original selves and often believed to be soulless copies of the summoned individual. Kadrisa, both the summoner and the summoned undead, combines both stigmas into one. Most religions would throw her out of their synagogues at best, and use anti-undead magic to attack her at worst.   Unbeknownst to her, she is a target of worship by believers in the story of The Twelve Paragons. They see her impressive abilities for her age and the event that turned her undead as proof that she is the Witch of Darkness.

Social Aptitude

Kadrisa isn't exactly the most... polite bird in the world. She has a tendency to demean and insult even her best friends, and that nasty side of her frequently comes out when talking to strangers. However, some find her snarky attitude and fierce nature endearing rather than insulting, and her otherwise cheerful personality causes others to gravitate to her. Good deception and a hint of magic helps her to maintain her charisma.

History

Kadrisa and Lazul met when, after tragedies overwhelmed the Cyanni kingdom, the young noble began to make frequent trips to Northwest Kinavi. As kids they used to frequently play in the swamps and savannahs near Lake Talahoe, and eventually she began to accompany him back to Cyanni and on his travels. By the current date, they've known each other for over six years. Lazul frequently confides in her and has no problem with the fact that she is undead and frequently uses dark magic. However, she keeps certain secrets about herself from him, and neither of them are truly honest about the relationship they have with each other.

History

After the disaster at the summit, the two of them have to join forces if they hope to survive the aftermath. Both of them like the other, but Soren doesn't yet know if he can trust her, and Kadrisa has secrets she would rather never see the light of day.

Undead are... different in Avanima, due to their intrinsic link with dark magic. I'll eventually work on an article that provides more detail, but a few things must be understood: undead usually maintain their original personalities, though are often mentally degraded depending on how long its been since they died, and look like ordinary Avani, though in certain circumstances can have their true nature revealed. While undead are significantly different magically from the living (spells affect them in weird ways), they can easily pass as living birdfolk.
