Atala Celare
Atala Celare is a human female paladin from the Kingdom of Edea. Born to a military family and regularly on the move with her father to military encampments and fort cities, she grew up on grand stories and tales of the Crown Guard of the Kingdom, and stories of old regarding the great wars and victories of the Kingdom. Due to never her upbringing, she survived moving from place to place by making a presence in the towns and cities she moved to through force, roughhousing with children her age and developing her strength and skills.
After her mother died in childbirth, her father, while caring, was cold, always expected her to best her peers and join the army at a young age like he did. He pushed her to surpass her goals and follow in his footsteps, and to make him proud. The tales of valour and glory Atala was brought up on inspired her from a young age to join the crown guard the moment she could. At age 17, to the pride of her family, she joined the Crown Defence Guard and was stationed in the state of Sanguine to train. Impatient to see combat, she trained for two years and rose to the top of her troop, and entered a division aged 19, excited to explore and fight for justice and the crown.
Her military career, however, was not at all what she was promised. Over three years of active duty, she saw a single scene of combat, only to ward of bandits on a convey she was charged with protecting. Her duties were entirely based on protecting bureaucratic figures, and she never ventured outside of Sanguine, let alone the kingdom. The Astrium had failed to live up to the tales of a duty-bound institution of warriors and mages who ensured justice was dealt across the continent, rather a meek and corrupt institution desperate to avoid conflict and danger at any cost. Heartbroken and ready to leave and pursue other goals, she was suddenly surprised to see she was drafted, along with her father, to assist a series of villages in the east on the border of Yt'zel after an ancient black dragon had escaped from beneath The Undareen.
Ready to finally have her big break, she travelled with her troop to the cool deserts west of the Undareen to face down the beast. The battle was gruelling and long, and the troop scarred the beast, but not before many of the soldiers had perished, including her father. Dying in her arms, he asked of her one thing: to avenge him. Wracked with guilt and desperate to achieve her fathers wish, she went into exile, spending the next two years travelling from place to place attempting to find some leads. She looked everywhere to figure out where this dragon was, and how to kill it.
The guilt she felt pushed her further, however. She read and studied, looking into magics and the deep arcane, learning how she could possibly reunite with her father. Struggling, she came across a monk in the mountains, who, under the influence of arcane narcotics, gave her visions of her future. In the vision, she was approached by a deity named Selune, the goddess of the Moon, the Stars and the Heavens, and received visions of a vast mountains and floating islands, fields of glory and battle. She also received the vision of a deep, firey cavern in a far away plane, where a 5 headed dragon slept and guarded the exit of a river running through the plane.
She left the mountains and searched out anyone who followed Selune. Studying and travelling, she discovered the plane she saw was Ysgard, an plane far in the outer realms. The multi-headed dragon was Tiamat, an evil draconic lord who let the chromatic dragons enter the prime material plane during the Astral War, an enemy of the gods of the higher plane. Atala came across an organisation of underground worshippers, a religious sect who worshipped Selune who operated in secret in the Kingdom. This organisation, named The Eclipse Front, trained adventurers and fighters to tap into divine powers to fuel their deeds. Unhappy with the behaviour of the Astrium, their members swore to deliver justice through any means necessary across the continent.
Atala's oath of vengeance was against the dragon who slayed her father, as well as the god who allowed it into the plane - Tiamat. She believed that by fulfilling this Oath, she could please Selune and have her father back. Over the next two years, she developed her skills as a Paladin, swearing an oath to Selune and joining the front on missions across the continent. Where the party meet her, Atala has been given advice to see a wizard who has a home in Sanguine named Galhmir, who could help her find her dragon.
