Dryad

A tree nymph (nymph being a minor female nature deity) or tree spirit. They are said to be very shy creatures, only revealing themselves when necessary.
Dryads are the guardians of nature and posses a number of magic abilities, aside from nature magic they also posses some magic that can influence or alter the minds of intelligent creatures.
They are usually said to be benevolent and kind.
They have the appearance of a mixture of human and elf.

Genetics and Reproduction

It is believed that dryads are born out of nature, how that process works is grounds of debate among scholars and wizards. The reason this is said, is that dryads don't have children but just seem to appear out of nowhere near trees and vegetation of sufficient size.

Ecology and Habitats

Dryads only live in lush green forests, some have been sighted in the colder conifer forests as well but not as frequently as in the warmer climates.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The dryads appear to receive nourishment and energy from the sunlight and the forest itself, it is as if the trees and animals all magically transfer energy and nutrients to the dryads.
