The World Trees

The World Trees are the origin of magic within the Material Plane. From them, magic is spread throughout all of Atoria. There are seven world trees spread across the planet. Two of which have been altered, those being the World Tree Of Kardan and the Sun Well.

Purpose / Function

These connecting points of magical energy allow spellcasters to connect to the lay lines that run from them. With these connections maintained the spellcasters can use the energy they give off the perform acts of magic.

Alterations

Whilst all of the World Trees have been altered in their time on Atoria, two have been completely changed.   The World Tree of Solarius (a.k.a. The Moon/Sun Well
The original World Tree was altered completely by the acts of the Elves of Solarius. None knows how they accomplished it but they turned the World Tree into a pool of our magical energy. This allowed them a much better understanding and control of magic. However, it also left a source of pure magical energy exposed and without protection except what they could provide.   The World Tree of Kardan a.k.a. Verfault Baum
Verfault Baum was a failed attempt of the Dwarves of Kardan to replicate the creation of the Moon Well. In attempting to create a source of pure magic energy they caused the world tree to discharge all of its magic. In this discharge of magical energy all of the surrounding area was drained of all magic as well as natural life causing the formation of the desert of Verfailen which resides in the eastern part of Aris today. In the years since, the dwarves, completely unable to perform magic have been forced to progress in different ways.

Architecture

The world trees are nearly impregnable except for extremely potent magics. The strong glowing wood matches the surrounding trees depending on where it is located. However, the world trees are thousands. of feet tall towering over all other structures in the area. Their leaves cover miles surrounding them causing the area in which they cover to be extremely potent in magic allowing for much more powerful spells.

Tourism

Many spell casters of all types make pilgrimages to the world trees around the world. Druids are especially known to do this. Many civilizations have built around the world trees in hopes of gaining protection as well as a great understanding of their nature.
