Howth University

Artistic Painting of Howth Castle from across the Commons of Howth University

Some of the best years of my life were here, learning, making friends, testing my mind against different topics. Sure it was hard, but it was worth it! ~ Anonymous Student
After his attempted invasion of Saxony, Willem the Bastard attempted and succeeded at an invasion of Eire. Landing his forces in the bay of Duibhlind and moving inland against the severely divided natives, he used the rivalry between the elvish and human natives against one another and secured a large section the eastern coast including what is now Duibhlind, now the capital of Eire. The peninsula known as Howth and the castle that overlooks it protects the bay of Duibhlind and acted as a military fortress for the descendants of Willem the Bastard for several hundred years after that. After the treaty of Shannon and the unification of Elvish and Human peoples of the interior of Eire, the new alliance immediately turned their attention to returning the lands previously conquered from them and fully re-uniting Eire as one country. The siege of Howth was a massive battle that lasted several months, but finally ousted the invaders. Howth Castle was immediately repaired and used as a fortress to ensure the security of the Eire, but eventually was turned over to become the site of the University of Howth about 200 years ago.  The castle was partially converted, leaving the walls intact, and the gate intentionally permanently locked in place.  The rooms inside have been turned into administration and occasionally the first classrooms of the new school.    The new school grew, first with wooden buildings at first then later with beautiful stone buildings.  Since its inception the University of Howth has earned the reputation of being one of the finest schools in all of the Western Kingdoms and beyond. Its graduates are highly sought after, and its scholars consulted internationally. To this day the original Castle Howth is still at the center of the University, though its rooms are used as classrooms, offices and other duties, it stands as a historical reminder of the Universities past.
