Helvetican Confederation

The Helvetican Confederation is the country that occupies the bulk of the Alps between the newly formed country of Thuringia to the north, and the Alliance of Lombardia to the south. The population consists largely of dwarves whose mines and colonies extend into the mountains of the alps, and the largest known enclave of gnomes who occupy the flatter agricultural lands. The country is well renowned for its invention and production of the finest firearms and cannon in Europe. The Gnomes are also renowned for thier banking and investment strategies around Europe.

Structure

The Confederation is a tight knit organization that was formed out of much smaller kingdoms of dwarves and gnomes into a coherent and "unconquerable" confederation focused on the prosperity of peace.

Culture

Over the last several hundred years the Helveticans have entwined thier cultures. Each former kingdoms celebrations are opportunities for travel to that province and celebrated there but frowned on when celebrated outside that province (for economic reasons). These feasts are big productions and draw from all area's of Europe.

Religion

Helvetica has struggled with religious persecution in the past.  Wisely, they have learned from those mistakes and keep religion both out of the government and its bureaucracy.  It isn't just frowned on in society, but the attitude is that a religion that has to evangelize with power isn't one that could hold its own theologically otherwise.
There are two major pantheons in Helvetica, the dwarvish and the gnomish pantheons.
