Fightin' on the Dock of the Bay

General Summary

Returning to the Tranquil Angel with the water, Hans and the newly-transformed Grom arrived as the surviving crew finished burying Marianne. Final goodbyes were said before the ship set sail. Still angry about the previous day's argument, that night Hans attempted to stealthily urinate on a sleeping Mean James but was caught in the act, although he was able to convince Mean James that he was sleepwalking. Two more days of uneventful sailing followed.

As the skyline of the Grand City of Meicor appeared in the distance, the crew noticed plumes of smoke from several fires across the city. Pulling into the docks, the party was stopped by a contingent of guards preventing entry into the city. While Grom was able to make friendly chatter with one guard who mistook him for Lindor Glowkindle, their attempts to enter the city were thwarted when they noticed a group of guards attacking Ra'zon, Big Tom, and Skinny Pete. In the course of the ensuing fight Hans was killed by a dock-mounted ballista, which was then commandeered by Raporra to help the three allies.

After the fight, the party ducked into the Sunken Dragon to take refuge and figure out their next course of action. Ra'zon revealed to Grom that in their absence, Aristo la Polla had broken out of prison, formed an alliance with the Zullo family, and risen up against the Savore Cirillo Ricci and the occupying Eloqui Order detachment. In response Ricci contracted out the Katalian Company to defend the Savoren Hall, but was not enough to prevent its fall. Ricci and most of the Eloqui were killed during the siege, and the Hildonian Crownmage was imprisoned. Aristo then had himself elected Savore and began hunting down the surviving Katalians.

Hearing this, Grom offered the three passage out of town on the Tranquil Angel, but first Ra'zon wanted to attempt to round up any survivors and rescue the Crownmage. The party began discussing what moves to make next.
