TANS Thornton
Astraesto's first battleship, named for its first chancellor
Ironic isn't it, naming this Galaxy's first purpose-made ship of war after the legendary chancellor who led Humanity into a new Galaxy. A man who was famous for his pacifism, and desire for unity. I suspect Ancraf will quickly come to rue this day.
The Terran Astronomical Navy Ship Thornton, was a notable vessel within the Terran Astronomical Navy during the Early Golden Age of Humanity. The ship is most notable as the progenitor of interstellar battleships, though its focus as a warship created a significant amount of criticism towards Chancellor Dania Ancraf, who had ordered the vessel's construction. Multiple riots, protests, and even a formal impeachment hearing occurred, however, Ancraf defied expectations and successfully won a second term in office.
At its creation, the TANS Thornton was by far the most powerful naval vessel within the entire Galaxy of Astraesto, however, the battleship was incredibly slow for its size. This prevented it from accomplishing one of its principal roles, that of battling Galactic Piracy. It served mostly as a decorative ship above Horizon, where it guarded the planet against a foe that lacked both the strength and the will to attack it.
Eventually, the ship would be scrapped, with many of its parts being used to make a new line of warships, more akin to modern cruisers than battleships.
