Federation Ships and Class

The Federation Navy is made up of thousands of space faring vessels, among them are dozens of different types and classes of ship. 
"Assault Ships"
Federation classes which contain the word "assault" in their name are uniquely suited to boarding duties during battle. These ships often have a large group of Marines aboard, and are able to dock with nearly any other ship.

Destroyers

Destroyers are the most common and numerous ship found in the Federation Navy, they are typically used, along with cruisers, as screening vessels for the larger battleships and carriers. Several classes of destroyer are quite proficient at engaging enemy forces at close and medium range, usually through the use of heavy cannons. Most destroyers however, act as anti fighter vessels.
They are usually quite small, especially compared to the other ships utilized by the Federation Navy. They are the largest vessels allowed under the authority of the police, and are used to patrol trade sectors and defend supply ships.
