Ross 154
✹ ) ⦾. ◦ ◦
Ross 154 is a red dwarf star with a contingent of three planets and a sparse debris belt, very close to Sol. It is a young star, less than a billion years old, and as such is a highly active flare star (in the same class as UV Ceti), with an interflare period averaging about 48 hours. This also explains why Proteus' biosphere is so simple; in fact, the Protean organisms offer astrobiologists a valuable window into the process of abiogenesis.
Astrography
Location
Ross 154 is a mere 5.6 lightyears from Helios, and lies just under ten lightyears from Sol, making it quite close to the center of known space. It has jump links to twelve other systems: Palkan, Helios, Olympia, Qaryn 7, Alpha and Proxima Centauri, Lampetia, Qaryn 8, Qaytaral, Erebus, Othrys, Zhou-Shang, and Sol. It is also within jump distance of Tokqainui, but the Xib Zjhar which have settled the system refuse all contact with other civilizations.Structure
The Ross 154 system is quite small, having just three planets. The largest of these, Proteus, is a relatively small nephelic world orbited closely by one erimic moon, and its tidal influence on the inner system resulted in the formation of the Protean Interior Belt instead of an inner planet. Far exterior to Proteus are two small erimae, which serve as wayports for system through-traffic. SYSTEM OUTLINE

Ecology
The ice giant Proteus orbits on the far edge of the star's habitable zone, and hosts a very young and primitive biosphere of organonitrile protocellular organisms which metabolize hydrogen and utilize ammonia as their biosolvent: the genesis group called Proteagenia. The young and exotic nature of this tree of life offers astrobiologists an extremely rare and exciting opportunity to study the origins of life through droplet chemistry on nephelic and jovian worlds.Archive Data
