Jae Chong has had an interesting life. They had a rough home life on the dark, isolated world of Nyx, and it wasn’t made any easier by being the only kid in their age group on a whole planet (read: one research base the size of a small town). When the UNSS Asteria arrived to transfer samples and data, Jae took the chance they’d been waiting for and stowed away. By the time Diego found them hiding out in the life support control room, the Asteria was well on its way to the next destination. A moody runaway teen was the last crew addition anyone anticipated, but fortunately for everyone, “JJ” (as Diego affectionately calls them) is a genius. After Jae proved themself by pulling their weight around the ship for a few months, Ness presented them with a plan: enroll as an ensign with UNAC to get officially registered to the Asteria’s manifest. Jae took the deal.
Mischievous and gifted, Jae enjoys pulling elaborate pranks on the rest of the crew, but makes up for it by taking their duties (currently shuttle upkeep) seriously. Even though Jae does not exactly get along with their official trainer, Liu Yang, their similar backgrounds provide some common ground on which to build a bond.
