Wildlife Relocation & Rehabilitation

Wildlife Relocation & Rehabilitation is an organization responsible for the management of Sylvanmere's forests and wildlife. The sylvan rangers regulate hunting and fishing within Sylvanmere according to the scarcity or abundance of species. Endangered species are relocated to safe havens where poaching is prohibited.

Structure

Wildlife Relocation & Rehabilitation is made up of the Sylvan Rangers—hunters, scouts, and trappers. They are authorized by the government of Sylvanmere to defend Forest Law. Some rangers are taught from a young age through the guild system (though WR&R is not strictly a guild itself). Others have military or mercenary backgrounds.
Each ranger is given a range of forest which they are responsible for watching and protecting. Most sylvan rangers actively communicate with the fauna in their ranges, fostering a relationship with the natural community. Some form a special bond with one animal in particular; this creature is called their animal companion, and both individuals draw strength from each other.

The head of the Wildlife Relocation & Rehabilitation are the Wardens. They assign rangers to their ranges, mediate disputes between overlapping law enforcement, and preside over the Woodmote judging those who have broken Forest Law. Additionally, wardens are responsible for instituting hunting regulations and establishing forest preserves.

History

During the Chthonic Age, rangers were warriors who lived on the fringes of civilization, hunting down deadly monsters. They were hunters, trappers, scouts, and trackers. Many served as protectors of civilization against the threats of the wilderness or vice versa. Rangers were characterized by their affinity for nature, to the unknown and untamed. While rangers exist in all biomes, sylvan rangers are most commonly associated with forests.
With the spread of the Feywild and beasts spreading rampantly across the wilderness, rangers became in high demand. They were employed to "range" the wilds keeping people safe while also protecting the rights of nature. The sylvan rangers uphold Forest Law, especially within the Royal Forest and other preserves. These laws served to protect fauna and flora from exploitation. The Woodmote was established as a court, presided over by rangers and the warden, that dealt with those who had broken the laws of the forest.
