Vizsla Manor
The Vizsla estate and manor house is the largest manor house in Everton, the office of the Archduke/Archduchess of Sylvanmere, and traditionally the home of the Silverheart family. It is known for its flourishing garden of flowers and the friendly hounds which guard the manor.
Purpose / Function
The manor serves as a home and place of office for the Archduke/Archduchess. It's current owner and resident is Archduke Kendrick Silverheart, who lives with his nephew, Lord Jeremias, his staff, and pack of hunting hounds. Peace treatises and political meetings are held in the manor house; the ballroom hosts galas and festivals. The Archduke also welcomes citizens to bring their disputes to his office to be resolved.
Alterations
Upon receiving his title, Archduke Kendrick hired contractors to expand the manor's dilapidated courtyard, clearing the weeds and thorn bushes—growing flowers and vegetables in their place. In particular, the Archduke favors Saint Cuthbert's wort and monkshood flowers.
At the arrival of Dragonlord Astilabor to Sylvanmere, large skylights were installed in the ballroom, which open to allow access for the dragonlord to speak clearly (and semi-privately) to people within the manor. Unfortunately, because of her great size, only her head fits inside. She will occasionally deign to shapeshift to a smaller size in order to be accommodated.
Architecture
The estate is surrounded by a stone wall rising about six feet in height. A wooden stable on the grounds houses thoroughbred Azer horses from Surntra as well as an elven reindeer given as a goodwill gift from the Tel'Quessir ambassador to Archduke Silverheart. Their harnesses are all affixed with silver bells.
The manor house itself is built in gray brick and sandstone with rowan wood roof trusses sown with a carpet of grass and a granite plinth as a foundation. The house consists of a main wing with two lateral wings to the north and south sides with an entrance in between. The north- and south-facing windows are made of forest glass. Cold iron horseshoes were installed above the threshold of all exterior doors, a traditional ward against the Fey.
History
When Everton became a settlement in 971 KA, the building was constructed by the commission of Isabelle Eberhardt, a local alchemist, for herself and her family. In 954, Eberhardt passed away, leaving her estate to her wife, who later sold it to the patriarch of the Silverheart family, Sterling Silverheart. Vizsla Manor only later became associated with the office of the Duchy when Lord Sterling was crowned the Archduke of Sylvanmere.
