The Black Canvas

Deep beneath the city of Evergreen, in a room that has no natural access and has been sealed by powerful magics, in an enchanted box the requires ten distinct keys to open, covered by a black cloth, lies a painting. It has been enchanted to look like nothing but a blank, black canvas. Attached to the cloth which covers it is a letter which reads:
To whom so ever reads this letter, know that what I say here is true.
I beseech thee to return this object to whatever state you have
found it in and to not look upon it. Should you neglect this request then be forwarned.
All those whom you have ever cared for will suffer to such an extent
that they will consider death to be a mercy. It will not be given to them.
To look upon this object is to invite pain incarnate into your life.
And by extension: the world.
I beseech thee once more:
Return this object to the state you found it.
Hide it, if it was not so when you found it.
Do not try to destroy it, for there is no power that can.
I pray for your safety. And that of the world.
Signed - Ginn'Kass - Archmage of Evergreen.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Should one be able to break through all of the objects in the way of the painting and look upon it then ones fate has been sealed. Under the illusion, The Black Canvas contains the only true drawing of "The thing that has no name." No person alive knows of the existence of the painting, for Ginn'Kass removed the memory of it from all those who did. Even herself. She did create a system of magical wards that would return the knowledge of the painting, yet not the memory of its contents, should anyone come close to breaking into its vault. It is unknown what will happen if the picture was to be seen again.
