The hand of the King started out his life as a lowly Grunt, back when The Legion was still new. He worked in construction, and was quite good at it. He got picked on and was always subjected to the harshest of jobs, usually ones that dangled him from large heights. One day, after falling off of yet another scaffolding, he decided he'd try to get promoted so that he could leave his horrible job. He fought in many battles under direct command from Atlas and was promoted fairly quickly, due to his fighting style that he had adapted from his experience in construction. One fateful day — after his promotion to Knight status — he was in the middle of a duel against one of Atlas' adversaries, when suddenly, alarms went off, sirens were blaring; someone had turned off lava control, and the old Fortress was soon to explode. He tried to continue his duel, but the ground under him broke apart and he fell into the lava of Mt. Valkor.
Years later, during the construction of the new Fortress, he had been found and was taken out of the lava. Atlas used magic to resuscitate him, and he awoke with newfound powers. The lava had given him better strength, intelligence and the ability to control lava. After seeing that Jim stayed loyal through all this, Atlas re-initiated him into The Legion and gave him the new title "Hand of the King." He is Atlas' sworn protector and leads the royal guard. Jim now wields a war hammer that he can swing with ease, and his old broken sword that he can control telekinetically, thanks to Atlas upgrading it. His armor is made of extremely dense alloys that were dipped inside Valkor's lava, which he carries effortlessly. He can materialize lava to launch at his foes, create walls and even makeshift weapons. For an even more powerful attack, he can smash the ground with his hammer or fists, creating fissures in the ground that erupt with lava.
