Knights of Crail

The most northern reach of the Reikvaldt's military arm, the Knights of Crail keep a vigil along the Middhold border, ever watchful of Orthonic incursions. Founded in 1234 as a promise to the people of Middhold against any future threats, they proved more than worth their weight in gold less than a century later, during the opening days of the Spawn Wars, when the fortresses of Crail and Carrac were put under siege. Proving their mettle, the Knights of Crail broke the siege on their own and proceeded to carve a swath of destruction through a dozen Orthonic warbands before linking up with the Alliance army that landed on the coast and leading the main counterattack against the Orthonic horde.

History

In the political aftermath of the Sixth Wave, Imperial and Velemin forces withdrew from the Cannis Ridge where they had been keeping the peace. Using this opportunity, Arandell and Middhold came to blows each seeking to claim the Ridge for themselves due to it's strategic importance. With Middhold's attention drawn to the south, three Orthonic warbands moved against them. Within six months they had ravaged nearly a quarter of Middhold's agricultural land, and though a tentative peace had been made with Arandell, Middhold's army was too small and too slow to match the lightning fast Orthonic raids. With no where to turn to, Middhold's High King requested Imperial support. Four painstaking weeks passed without response, but in the midst of a thunderstorm Imperial helped arrived in the form of sixteen Reiksguard Knight. The mobility and ferocity of the Reiksguard forced the Orthon back north of Carrac and gave a statement to the whole continent that the Empire would always help it's allies. To guarantee this message, a scion of the Empire Knights was founded: the Knights of Crail, two-hundred of the finest warriors, trained and dedicated to holding the line against the Orthonic threat.
