Cahir Abbey
The Hall of the Vigilants
A large and imposing fortified monastery, Cahir Abbey overlooks the village of Cahir (formerly known as Ionith). No one is sure of just how old the Abbey is, but it is generally accepted as dating at least to the 400s, though the catacombs beneath may be far older still.
History
Built by the Brothers of Aback, Cahir Abbey served as their cloister for nearly five centuries before falling into disrepair after they moved to the more spacious Wecklir Abbey. In the late 1100's a group of heretics adapted the ruins to be their home, their corruption took root and spread to the nearby city of Ionith. When they were uprooted in 1241, the Abbey was once more left in ruin. It would take nearly half a century before it would be brought back from it's ruin.
