Mennin
The Mennin or the Gnomes are small halfling like creatures yet have pointier ears, are mostly more slenderly built and have an innate excitement to go out and explore the world. A Mennin feels like it will never have enough time to enjoy life to its fullest. For outsiders it seems like they are never relaxed and always need to see something new, the Gnome however feels totally relaxed, it just needs to see everything in its lifespan. They are also master tinkerers and experiment quite a lot with technology or magic.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Looks like an Elven version of the Halfling, more slenderly built.
Growth Rate & Stages
Gnomes mature at the same rate humans do, and most are expected to settle down into an adult life by around age 40. They can live 350 to almost 500 years.
Ecology and Habitats
Depending on where the Mennin live they are divided into subraces. These are mostly the same as the Elvallìn.
The Druadan Mennin live in the forests and are quite rare. They are innately stealthy and mostly like to be left alone.
The Ruarnar Mennin live in very hot places like near volcanoes. They have innate fire magic abilities.
The Terran Mennin are the most common Mennin species and live near rocks and mountains, giving them the nickname of the 'Rock Gnome'.
The Deep Mennin are Mennin that live underground. They are still good creatures even though there are creatures everywhere ready to oppress them.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The mennin try not to eat meat whenever it isn't necessary. The Druadan Mennin are totally vegan and leave the animals alone, only using them to defend their village.
Additional Information
Social Structure
The Mennin live in small hubs which they call 'Menage'. A menage consists of multiple Mennin families living together in peace. These might just be a couple of families living together (which is common with the Druadan Mennin), or there might be a hundred (common with the Terran Mennin). They are led by a Menage Master who enforces the law of the menage, together with a sort of police force. But mostly those police are doing nothing since the gnomes live in relative peace with each other and through the family bonds everyone in the village knows each other.
Mennin who live with other races mostly have a shop in the city where they provide a service or they might be traveling adventures excited to discover the world and it's secrets.
Facial characteristics
A gnome’s personality is writ large in his or her appearance. A male gnome’s beard, in contrast to his wild hair, is kept carefully trimmed but often styled into curious forks or neat points. A gnome’s clothing, though usually made in modest earth tones, is elaborately decorated with embroidery, embossing, or gleaming jewels.
Civilization and Culture
Naming Traditions
Gnomes love names, and most have half a dozen or so. A gnome’s mother, father, clan elder, aunts, and uncles each give the gnome a name, and various nicknames from just about everyone else might or might not stick over time. Gnome names are typically variants on the names of ancestors or distant relatives, though some are purely new inventions. When dealing with humans and others who are “stuffy” about names, a gnome learns to use no more than three names: a personal name, a clan name, and a nickname, choosing the one in each category that’s the most fun to say.
Major Organizations
The biggest Mennin Menage is the village of Pumperhuckle in the province of Galnéath. But there are more smaller villages across Arthenos.
History
The Mennin come from a mirror dimension of Arthenos. A world full of chaotic energy said to be one of Iam's tricks. The Mennin came to the material plane of Arthenos after a rupture between the mirror dimensions where creatures from the Feywild mirror dimension could pass through. This event is called the Rupture.
The Mennin entered Arthenos and split according to where they felt interesting to live. The Ruarnar Mennin and the Druadan Mennin were always small in numbers, but the Terran Mennin grew larger because of the inventions they made and could build great cities. Some Mennin went underground and became the Deep Mennin.
