The Gathering Settlement in Arelia | World Anvil

The Gathering

The Gathering, the only safe haven for anyone unfortunate enough to find themselves in the lands of the Ten-Thousand Deaths. The Council of Elders has opened The Gathering to outsiders recently. The locals have a good relationship with all the kingdoms of the underwater realms as well as Ameriel Kingdom. The Druids of Malumalu are also welcome here. The two most recent addition to this small list are the Legion Of The Lionheart and the Lazurite Academy  Here one will learn of the interesting cultures that come from the Ten-Thousand Deaths. Of course, there's also the looming threat of sudden and various amounts of death that await for anyone who leaves this place unprepared, ill equipped and most especially without any guide. Never mind the fact that countless other adventurers and invaders have come before you and all died. Surely YOU will survive and perhaps even return with tales of untold treasures hidden within ancient temples of death and doom eh? No? Hey wait where are you going? Ugh mother was right. Maybe tourism is not my calling afterall....

Demographics

The local population consists of Cueyatl, Yuan-Ti and Lizardfolk.

Government

A Tribal Council of Elders forms the governing body of the land of the Ten-Thousand Deaths.

Defences

Oddly enough, The Gathering has no physical defensive structures at all. Even so, it is by no means undefended. All the nations of the underwater realms have forces stationed nearby to defend the Ten-Thousand Deaths from all attacks by sea. Yet, no one knows why. You see, the Ten-Thousand Deaths have been invaded in the past you see. Very many times in fact. Yet, even so, no invasion has succeeded nor has any member of any invading force ever survived. You see, there are many plants and animals that survive off of the death of other creatures in the lands of the Ten-Thousand Deaths. They are always hungry. The secret is simple. Many invaders think the nations of the underwater realms are there to protect the Ten-Thousand Deaths, the truth is, they are there to protect the world FROM the Ten-Thousand Deaths.

Points of interest

The Council's Chambers: This building is where the elders of the 3 tribes gather to discuss the future of their people and seek solutions to any problems they may have. One needs to request an audience because simply walking in, is an insult and one greeted with death of the instantaneous variety.   Rest: The only Inn in the entire village but it is capable of providing room and board for up to 500 individuals thanks to certain gifts given by the Lazurite Academy as tokens of friendship.    Hearth: The only tavern-like establishment in the entire country. It has a kitchen that caters to outsiders but the selection is extremely limited. Most of the food and drink served are of the local variety that the natives found "won't kill outsiders".   Hunter's Stop: The hunter gatherers of the three tribes gather supplies before every venture from here. The owner is willing to trade with non-natives.   Healer's Hut: The hut has several healers within who normally attend to the wounds Hunters sustain when out gathering. They will also offer their services to travelers from other lands and have a few herbal remedies and potions to take on the go as well.   Temple of Death: The goddess of death, Ameriel is worshiped here by the natives.

Tourism

Almost non-existent due to the deadly flora and fauna all native to the Ten-Thousand Deaths. Almost. There are, after all, the fool hearty band of adventurers, the spoiled and ill prepared thrill seeking rich nobles of foreign lands and the individuals seeking some new weapon or some such they can use against their enemies.

Architecture

The buildings of the Ten-Thousand Deaths are a blend of buildings that are grown, made of the leather hides and chitons of the strange beasts found within the Ten-Thousand Deaths. All simple and yet extremely efficient, durable and all natural.

Geography

A unique village that encompasses portions of swamps, coastal area and jungle of the Ten-Thousand Deaths.

Natural Resources

All of the rare, and extremely difficult to attain, plants, animals, regents, poisons, and the like of the entirety of the Ten-Thousand Deaths.
