Verissian, Host of Scales

Verissian

One of the Twelve High Hosts that rule over the Heavens.   The first Winter Host, Verissian has long been associated with the counting of deeds and the judging of souls after death. With the growing popularity of mercantilism in the east (especially the eastern coast of Milos), her role in commerce has come to the forefront. She is also the Host of the paying of debts, and her name is invoked when lords pay their serfs and peasants for the farming of the spring, summer, and autumn.   Verissian is depicted with white hair and ghast skin, and is oft connected with the Mornals and their brief reign over the east. Much of history records her as a brutal, slow-witted, and bloodthirsty killer, who mercilessly dragged the slain into the afterlife for torment, there to perfect their spirits through penance. Her recent revisioning through Eysch influence has done much to popularize her, and indeed small cults have emerged worshipping her above the other Hosts for her hand in business matters.   Ancient images of Verissian often show her with an axe, but there was a protracted period where she was shown to hold a scythe, as the harvester of mortal souls. Far more often nowadays, however, she is depicted with scales or a coin.   Verissian's colors are Purple and Orange. Her bird is the Raven. Her beast is the Grimling. Her Month is the tenth Month, called the Veri Moon or the Debtors-Moon. Her constellation is the Heron. She is associated with ambition and persistence, as well as practicality and discipline. She is considered the patron of Tannatar, the thirteenth Royarch.   Common Aspects: Verissian Cuiroir (the counter), Verissian Clarlach (the miser), Verissian Fornhomaioir (the executioner)
