Sceyal

A sceyal is a spoken artform, typically a grand story or myth. Given their apprehensions regarding the spelt word, the peoples of Milos have rich traditions of oral histories and myths.   Sceyals typically come in three different forms: the common, or prosaic; the poetic, or natural; and the magic, or sung. The most enduring sceyals are the poetic, spoken in rhythmic patterns and utilizing elevated speech, sometimes even integrating largely outdated languages. These are often major performances with relatively large audiences. The bards of the Deinain worshippers often consider this practice a sacred duty. Common sceyals are typically spoken in simple language, and are essentially well-known stories repeated to neighbors and amongst family, down the generations. Magic sceyals make use of chants, and are consequently frequent subjects of fear; moreover, magicians are more likely to create their own chants for popular consumption, knowing their profession's resistance to historicity, so magical sceyals tend to be short-lived, focusing on recent events.
