New Spellery

The new center of magic and history in Milos

The New Spellery was built at the center of Cantef, given place of preference even over Bellfort, seat of Clan Ainrei. Fifteen stories high, the New Spellery is a tower said to be built of the purple stone from faraway Olveiria. Others, including the wizards themselves, say the stones and mortar have merely been coated and mixed with a purple dye or paint. This, of course, is arguably even more extraordinary, as may well have taken the wealth of all the Lordslands of Milos to afford that much purple paint and dye. The Ainrei are the last known descendants of the royal Clan of Ainros, but even so, such wealth would be virtually unimaginable. The New Spellery and Cantef itself rests near the middle of the Peninsula, making it especially vulnerable to attack. Expending such valuable materials in its construction, is a testament to Cantef's confidence in the peace established by the Great Conclave. Or, perhaps, their own military prowess.   Though the stones that made the New Spellery are worth more than a kingdom, what is contained within its walls is said to be beyond price. Therein, wizards dwell. Some say a dozen, some a hundred. Supported by countless spellers, the wizards of Cantef do their utmost to rediscover the lost secrets and histories of Milos that vanished with the Burning of the Great Spellery. They collect and copy spells, scrolls, and grimoires. They spell out stories from tellers and magicians in their various forms, sift through them for reliable facts, and add these to their own findings. And, many whisper, they search for the secrets to the High Magics of the the Old Orckid Empire, magics that had empowered them to conquer the world.   Today, the New Spellery is home to the Six Sagarts, the self-appointed historians of Milos. Much of what is spelt and spoken of Milosian was scrawled by one of their hands.
