Khan
Meaning "First among the Ikhans," Khan is the title for the ruler of the Holy Qhaganate of Zalja. Khan is an inherited title, passed from parent to eldest child, or that closest in blood if no child exists. A Khan's wife is called a Khanra. A Khan's husband is called a Khanro. A Khan's child is called a Khannit.
Given Zalja's status, the Khan is often considered the most powerful person in the world. It is true that three pillars of government exist beneath the Khan to check dangerous ambitions (the Commonwealth, the Maliqate, and the Solulanate), but these pillars only have power over the Khan when acting in unison. Given that each of these organizations is composed of several people (hundreds, in the case of the Commonwealth), it can be difficult to get even one of them to behave in concert, let alone joining all three under a single purpose. Because of this, the Khan remains the practical leader on matters economic, military, and religious, as well as social.
