Lord Arthos was the first High Magus, an office originally intended to gain greater control of the royal spellers. Arthos greatly increased the number of spellers under royal command, and increased communications between Revellia and the other cantons.
Though he greatly revolutionized the organization of royal spellers and laid the groundwork for everything Brother Aaran Dylaen would achieve after him, Arthos is best remembered for his blunder with the birds, wherein he sent his son Pallas north to Vaina in the hopes of stealing rainbow birds and bringing them to Revellia for breeding. The birds in question were said to be excellent for carrying messages over great distances. It was illegal, however, to carry these birds out of Vaina, and Pallas managed to smuggle out a breeding pair only at great risk to his own life. Sadly, the birds refused to eat and died during the voyage.
